Horse trainer Cook, 24, from Selma, Ore., had landed in the cellar for several weeks in a row, but she seemed to be gaining momentum with savvy song choices, outlasting what many "Idol" watchers opined were far more talented singers.
Syesha Mercado and Brooke White were among the bottom three vote-getters.

To break up the suspense of who would get the boot, the poised Carey, in a black body-hugging mini dress, unleashed her magnificent voice on "Bye Bye" from her new CD.
Next week: British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is scheduled to coach the six finalists in a program of Broadway show tunes.
