Real Simpsons home is Springfield in Vermont

USA Today kept people waiting a few minutes past 2 p.m., the time the announcement was scheduled. With the announcement made, reaction is already coming in.

Patty Chaffee, vice president of the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce is quoted in the announcement that Springfield, Vt., will host the premier of "The Simpsons Movie."

Senator Patrick Leahy congratulated Vermonters today in a press release. "We're glad for the honor, and today we're all from Springfield. As much as we Vermonters prize our privacy, we also welcome this attention to our beautiful state. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie will look great on that yellow carpet with the Green Mountains as a backdrop," he said.

Comments on the USA Today Web site range from disgust, anger and disappointment to congratulatory.
