German cyclist Linus Gerdemann won the seventh stage of the 2007 Tour de France on Saturday and with it claimed the overall lead at the famous race.
It was the first Tour stage victory in the first Tour de France appearance for the rider of the T-Mobile team, who will turn 25 in September. Gerdemann took off on his own on the first serious climb of this year's Tour, up to the Colombiere Pass, and kept his composure, and the lead, to the finish.
The winner's time for the 197.5-km course from Bourg-en-Bresse to Le Grance-Bornand in the French Alps was 4 hours 53 minutes 13 seconds, an average speed of 40.41 kph to take over the coveted yellow jersey signifying the race leader from Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara.
Spaniard Inigo Landaluze finished second, 40 seconds behind, with another Spaniard, David de la Fuente, coming in third place, 1 minute 39 seconds adrift.
